You are very welcome. Keep a look out tomorrow for all the new things in the school garden and see if you can spot any bird or beastie boxes.

    Hello Again!

Just to say we started our Biodiversity Action Day by writing about what ‘Biodiversity Means to Me!’

Julia and Zac, our class representatives on the Green Schools Committee helped us.

They walked around the class and gave us some ideas about what to write.

Julia says ‘Well the thing about Biodiversity is you have to have a balance. You need to keep the different species healthy and alive.

If a hedgehog was living in your garden, you would leave it out dog food and not milk because cow’s milk is bad for hedgehogs.

Zac said it is about making the world a better place, cleaning the place up so that it is a safer habitat for the animals to live and not forgetting to put food in the bird feeder, especially during the winter months and not to forget to put out water for the birds.

Then Teacher wrote the words ‘Celebrating Biodiversity’ on the blackboard and we tried to see how many smaller words we could find in these two words. At the moment Shauna has 16. Teacher has challenged the class to find at least 20.

The longest word we found was ‘diversity’ and we talked about what ‘diversity’ means. There is a dance group called ‘Diversity’ and 2nd Class Room 6 could called themselves ‘Diversity’ too because we are all so different.

Later on today we are going to play a game which shows how a bat could locate his prey using his ears. We will stand in a circle. Teacher will blindfold the ‘bat’ and the bat’s prey will carry a bell and ring it so that the ‘bat’ can guess where his prey is and catch it.

We are having fun on Biodiversity Action Day. Thanks.
